West Virginia Historical Index

Commencing in the fall of 2026, the Mary H. Weir Public Library is proud to launch the initial phase of our new West Virginia Historical Index. As this project is currently in its infancy, our team is actively building a comprehensive digital gateway for regional magazines, special publications, and vertical file clippings. This growing resource will allow researchers, genealogists, and community members to discover local historical articles, photographs, and documents chronicling the rich heritage of the Northern Panhandle and surrounding areas.

How It Works

1. Search by Keyword: Enter names, titles, authors, or topics into the search field below to query our growing database of records.
2. Review Details: Scan publication titles, volume issues, and specific page numbers as entries are continuously added.
3. Access Digital Scans: Where available, click the View PDF button to immediately download or view digitized files.
4. Explore Physical Holdings: For items not yet digitized, physical archives and vertical files remain accessible on-site at the library’s Reference Department.

Collection Details

• Includes a foundational collection of regional historical magazines and vertical file subject folders.
• As an ongoing, multi-phase digitization project, new historical records and digital scans are being added regularly.
• Planned future features include expanded subject indexing, enhanced remote document delivery options, and broader coverage of historical community publications.
• Physical archives are fully accessible in person at the Reference Department, with microfilm and research assistance available on-site.
